David B. Friedman is the founder and, along with his son Jared, Co-CEO of Friedman Real Estate. Formed in 1987, Friedman Real Estate has grown to include over 550 team members and has established itself as one of the nation’s leading single-source commercial real estate solution providers. The company is headquartered in Farmington Hills, Michigan, and operates in the Midwest and Southeast with additional coverage in 23 states.
David is known for his ongoing innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurial vision. He began his professional career in 1983 as a purpose-driven commercial real estate broker, focused on building relationships with both clients and colleagues. Just four years later, he formed Friedman Real Estate Group which became a dominant player in SE Michigan’s brokerage market.
Under David's visionary leadership, Friedman Real Estate expanded its service lines beyond brokerage to include commercial and multi-family property management & receivership, distressed asset advisory services, commercial lending and loan servicing through SF Capital, third-party commercial construction and design via Premier Construction, and facilities and HVAC services through Friedman Mechanical. The company manages more than 18,000 multi-family units and manages more than 20M square feet of office, retail, and industrial property throughout the region. The company provides a fully end-to-end suite of services to assist clients across the entire lifecycle of a commercial real estate project.
Friedman Real Estate is one of the largest privately owned commercial real estate firms in the nation and continues to prosper with the addition of David’s sons Jared, Austin, and Jordan to key roles within the firm. With a strong executive leadership team, a strategic plan for growth, and a solid succession plan, the company is poised for continued growth for decades to come.
A graduate of Michigan State University, David has received numerous distinctions and awards from Crain’s Detroit Business, Midwest Real Estate News, and National Real Estate Forum, including awards for “Best of the Best,” “Who’s Who in Metro Detroit,” “Forty Over 40,” “Detroit Power Broker,” and “Real Estate Excellence.” The firm most recently was selected as Property Management Company of The Year by real estate publication RE Journals. He holds membership in several professional, civic, and charitable organizations, including the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors, International Council of Shopping Centers, and JARC.
